When asked about the possibility of seeing Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher in the future, the lead writer of The Witcher: Wild Hunt didn’t rule out the possibility. During an interview with VG247, the aforementioned screenwriter Jakub Szamalek commented on the character’s absence from the game’s stories and regretted not having explored her sufficiently.
“I regret that we didn’t explore Ciri’s past further. She is an incredibly rich and complex character. For obvious reasons – she’s missing two-thirds of the game – she didn’t get as much screen time as we writers would like. But maybe we’ll come back to it in the future” – reported Szamalek.
Ciri is an important character in The Witcher’s story, so her presence is missed, while her absence is justified. Also, she’s a character who has a story of her own, an interesting past that loses a lot if not told.
This prompted journalist Kirk McKeand to question whether the company would be interested in re-recording The Witcher’s story and bringing Ciri as the protagonist. The screenwriter did not dispute the hypothesis and limited himself to answering:
“Interesting question. Would you like to play with Ciri as the main character?”.
Like most fans, the journalist obviously answered yes. So from this conversation, it’s entirely possible that we’ll see more of the character in future games in the franchise. Good news, isn’t it?!
The Witcher: Wild Hunt was released in 2015 and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch and Xbox One. It’s possible that after the release of Cyberpunk 2077, the current focus of CD Projekt RED, a new game will be developed in the franchise.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on September 17th for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia. Find more content about games, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077 and more here.
